In August, Newcastle’s most ambitious youth theatre company presented a tapestry of the past in a brand new, original production called Dreams of a Forgotten City which was held in Fort Scratchley.

Dreams of a Forgotten City was created by nine of the city’s leading young artists, in collaboration with Tantrum’s artistic director Brendan O’Connell and dramaturg Rachel Jackett. The cast and crew worked with the unique features of Fort Scratchley to create a site responsive piece that was performed for four nights only and which immersed audiences in the atmospheric and historic site.

Following on from Tantrum’s highly acclaimed Peepshow in 2009, this imaginative theatrical exploration of one of Newcastle’s most famous landmarks presented a collage of memories and dreams. Fragments of lives and echoes of our history were illuminated in this highly visual new work, the likes of which were never before seen in this city.
